'First Blood to the Auxiliaries'
The 70th Anniversary of the first aerial exchanges over the British mainland during WW2 was commemorated on Tuesday 13th of October 2009 at the Royal Highland Fusiliers Museum.
The event was attended by honoured guests including the Lord Dean of Guilds, Graeme Kidd, and Deputy Lord Provost, Allan Stewart. Centre stage was reserved for the veterans who served in 602 (City of Glasgow) and 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadrons during the historic events in 1939.

Guests were shown a multimedia presentation documenting the key figures involved and the sequence of events. This presentation is now available on the website. Launch Presentation.

Honorary Chairman of the Museum Association, Ian Macdonald, presented the current C.O. of 602 Squadron, Graeme Lyall with a specially designed limited edition print of the Dugald Cameron painting depicting the aircraft of George Pinkerton and Helmut Pohle over the Forth.

The event was covered by Scottish Television and interviews with several former members of 602 and 603 Squadrons formed the centrepiece of a report which aired on the national news on Thursday 15th of October.
