Pohle was tasked with attacking Rosyth next day. German Intelligence stated that HMS Hood was at Rosyth and the area was only defended by a few biplanes and some training aircraft. HMS Hood was the prime target. Goring needed it for the Feuhrer.
On Monday 16th October many personnel around the Firth of Forth had a feeling that ' something was about to happen'. There was a marked increase in 'radio chatter', the Observers reported sightings of reconnaissance aircraft and to add to this the radar system at Drone Hill had suffered a power failure.
