SLIDE 12 - Attack Continues

The fourth wave of three bombers had drifted far North of the Forth and they came in flying south west to pick up the north bank of the river. A convoy was moving upstream with one of the escorts being HMS Mohawk. The ship was bombed and strafed off Elie Ness by one of the aircraft.
Twelve of the crew were killed including Commander Jolly who stayed on the bridge, despite being mortally wounded, until the ship was out of danger . He was awarded the Albert Medal.

All British fatalities were from the Royal Navy with 12 from HMS Mohawk, 2 From HMS Edinburgh and 1 from HMS Southampton. In addition there were 45 wounded. All Auxiliary Air Force pilots returned safely.
